How Children Design the Future of AI for Primary Schools
In February and March 2025, 7 primary school classes across Scotland and the Netherlands participated in a workshop on the future of AI at school. In teams, students aged 9-12 reflected on opportunities for improvement at their school and designed an AI-powered tool that could help with their topic. This website showcases all of their ideas!

The Spelling Bot A tablet on wheels with spelling games, such as typing out the name of an image on the screen
The Automatic Pencil A floating pencil that automatically marks work
Emotional robot Press a button corresponding to an emotion and the robot will talk you through it
Shape / math creator Draws perfect shapes and describes their mathematical properties
Goliath A robot to help students who have ADHD, are blind, and/or have down syndrome
ak A clicker game to release aggression and a chatbot to, once calmed, talk through feelings (short for 'agressief kind' or 'aggressive child')
Kid help a robot Hovering robot to resolve playground conflicts and help with learning
Fingerprint A fingerprint scanner to automatically register students and speed up lunch transactions
The Test Marker Scanner that quickly marks tests and gives feedback
Language aids Two hearing aids, one translates voices and another tells you what to say in different languages
School Buddy Provides grades and feedback for writing assignments
Eduquest Robot with tools built in for anything you want
VoiceBot A voice-controlled robotic arm that takes over typing for people with physical disabilities
Fun.maths AI Make fun maths worksheets with image generation and text-to-speech
Ajimo Robot that cleans, serves lunch, and provides 'therapist talk'
The Maths Bot Scanning maths problems to get tips on how to solve them
M.A.I.S.I.E. Breaks up fights on the playground (short for 'Making AI Safe in Education')
D.E.C.B. Chatbot to tell your feelings to, allowing you to choose the teacher you want to notify about them (short for 'Driestam Emotie Chat Bot')
Time Tracker Makes you a schedule with reminders and prints it out every morning
The Helpotron Helps teachers come up with new ideas for maths through a voice interface
Mr Step-by-Step Give it worksheets and it will explain how to approach the questions
Robo-edog Robot dog to talk to about your feelings
Auto Cleaner Does chores like sweeping, laundry, and storing things
AI lessons Generates lessons and work for students by looking at other online resources
The Buddy Bot Comforts students that don't have friends
Picture Bot Generates images for those that 'need help with creativity'
